HOW DO VIRUSES GET THEIR NAMES?

 


SOME OF THE DANGEROUS VIRUSES ARE, ANH THEIR HISTORY, 


SARS-COV-2, MERS-COV, EBOLA VIRUS, NIPAH VIRUS, H1N1, BIRD FLUE. 


Today let's see how these viruses have ruined the world and how they got their names. 



1.SARS-COV-2

Initially called 2019 novel corona virus virus responsible for covid-19 was eventually named severe acute respiratory syndrome corona virus SARS-COV-2 by the (ICTV,) as it is generally related to corona virus responsible for the SARS  break in 2003.
the disease caused by SARS-COV-by COV-2 is called the corona virus disease or covid-19. 



2.MERS- COV, 

The Middle East respiratory syndrome corona virus or MERS- COV is a noble Corona virus causing a viral respiratory diseases .
It was first identified in South African  in 2012 ,as per w.h.o. studies it shows that humans are infected with the virus through direct-indirect contact with infected dromedary  camels. 



3.EBOLA VIRUS, 

As per WHO ,virus disease first appeared in 1976 in two simultaneous outbreak one of them occurred Democratic Republic Congo in a village near the Ebola river from which the disease take its name ,fruit bats of the the the ptepodidae are family are thought to be the natural aloevera virus hosts. 



3.NIPAH VIRUS, 

As per CDC ,the name of virus originated from a village in the Malaysian Peninsula .
where big farmers became ill with encephalitis during an outbreak in 1999.
the virus can be transmitted to human from animals like bat or pigs  and in may 2018 in a NIPAH virus outbreak was reported from two districts of Kerala. 



4.H1N1 

H1N1 is a type of Influenza .a virus which is divided into subtypes based on two proteins on the virus surface hemagglutinin (H) and neuraminidase(H). SWINE FLU is a  respiratory disease of pigs caused by the type A ,Influenza viruses which on being detected in humans called "variant" virus such as H1N1 virus. 



5. BIRD FLU,

H5N1 is a type of Influenza virus that causes and infected respiratory disease in birds called Avian influenza or bird flu. 
Avian flu virus normally circulate  among  birds and infections in humans have been associated with direct or indirect contact with infected Birds. 



6. Why do viruses and they cause often have different names., 

Viruses are named by ICTV based on the genetic structure to facilitate the development of Diagnostic tests, vaccines and medicines. 
diseases are named by WHO to enable discussion on disease prevention spread Transmission ability severity and treatment.
